As pointed out on our home page affiliate marketing is not really a new concept for marketing. This is just another way of looking at it. What affiliate marketing really means is that you are promoting someone else's product or service, not very much different from a sales force at a brick and mortar establishment. A car sales person is a good example of this. They receive a base pay and a commission for each vehicle.

Internet affiliate marketers do not receive a base pay at least that I'm aware of anyway. You also have to pay for your ad campaigns if using a Pay Per Click form of advertising. Other forms of promotion can be free or it may cost.

Do not believe or fall for any of these overnight promises. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

If you had a money tree, would you tell everybody where it was? Of course not!

There is always a small bit of truth hidden in these ad's that make you believe them. It is this and greed that makes us suckers.

Success at a Steady Forward Pace

You can be successful as an affiliate marketer but it will not happen overnight. Also it will not take years and years.

How long it takes is mostly up to you. How much effort and time you put in will reflect how fast things happen. If you don't have a lot of time it will still work but at a slower pace.

There are a lot of facets of this business that you must learn and be aware of when getting started. Most things you will learn as you go but be careful especially where money is involved. A lot of sharks swimming the internet.

Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?(a turtle and a rabbit for most of us). That is how we want to go forward only a little faster than a turtle.

Signing up with an Affiliate Program

One of the best affiliate marketing tips is to be careful who you sign up with as an affiliate. Most of your affiliate networks are safe but you should still check out the "Terms of Agreement" and anything else about the company or network. Some Companies Help Affiliates

If you are selling a product or service the company that sells the product or service will usually provide you with some sales promotion items like banners, ad samples, images and email sample newsletters.

You normally have to reword these unless your are not allowed. Some let you use a newsletter or email but you cannot change it. Don't use these because you will have the exact same article as everyone else. Not a good idea, you want unique, original content.

The better vendors(company or individual that owns the product or service) will also email you and let you know of any changes in their product or service such as a special temporary sale price, a raise in price or even a new product that was added to their line.

Your Links are Like Money

The most important item that the vendor will provide is your affiliate links. They are usually a text link that you can put on your web page or in an ad, blog, newsletter or whatever other form of promotion that you use. It can also be an image link. Make sure you understand how and where to use your links or you won't get paid.

Here is an example of a link for a product being sold through clickbank.

This one is for a pay per click ad (http://yourid.productid.hop.clickbank.net/) You would replace yourid with your id from signing up with clickbank. The product id will be provided by clickbank.

This one would be for your web site

This is similar to the first one but it is to be used in a web page. The only part that is visible on the web page is the "Click Here!" which can be any text you want. That way you can work it into a normal sentence without it being an annoying "buy me" link.

This is another view of how affiliate marketing can be a home business that you run from your personal computer or notebook. You can make affiliate marketing a full or part time endeavor. The one major factor that makes this type of job so appealing is how flexible it can be. Being able to work from home, especially if you have small children to care for is a real plus. You can set your own hours and work at anytime of the day or night, computers aren't noisy and the internet never sleeps.
